Privacy and data use
URLSharing is designed to provide share buttons and an aggregate share count without requiring an account.
Information stored
- The URL being shared.
- The domain of that URL.
- An aggregate count of sharing-button clicks.
By default, current-page sharing removes query-string values and page fragments before the URL is sent. Website owners can deliberately choose the full-URL option when those values are required.
How it is used
The stored URL and domain identify which aggregate count to display. They are also used to update URLSharing's overall usage totals. The data is not used to identify individual visitors.
Abuse prevention and normal web requests
A one-way hash of the visitor's IP address is held temporarily for rate limiting. Like most websites, the server may also receive standard request information such as IP address, browser details, requested resource and time in routine access or security logs.
Information not stored by the widget
URLSharing does not store page contents, page titles, visitor names, email addresses, contact lists or browser-language values. The widget does not set cookies or use browser local storage. Regional button selection is calculated locally in the browser.
External sharing services
When a visitor chooses Email, SMS, WhatsApp, Facebook, X, LINE, Telegram or another option, their browser or device opens that service with the shared URL. The selected service then handles information under its own privacy terms.
